Hospital de la Familia, Guatamala
The Hospital de la Familia is a hospital and clinic high in the remote mountain jungle of Guatemala. The hospital serves the impoverished people who live in the area, as well as the many people who travel to this hospital from other parts of Mexico and Central America.
Dr. Longar has been part of a medical mission team for 14 years. A big part of the work done at Hospital de la Familia is surgical care for the people who have lost their vision due to cataracts, glaucoma, and pterygiums. Dr. Longar and her team perform hundreds of eye surgeries during that week. This mission is very rewarding for the surgical team and the patients are so grateful to have their vision restored.
